Less Talk, More Rock, Record Pop

NOEL at the Controls of Mexican border blaster XERF AM while on tour mixing Dinosaur Jr..

Like Wolfman Jack said, "Have a Dinosicle." Then prepare yourself for less talk, more rock, succinctly presented by The KILLERWATT's one and only, NOEL at the Controls. Crucial listening!

But those pops ... sticky little mothers, ain't they?

WASTED Lets Night Come Knockin'

Rikk Chips (L) and Dave WASTED ventilating KLW's smoke-filled transmitter room with a few record library grabs. They only ended up fanning the flames of Chief Engineer Sid Walker's wrath. No smoko-breaks anywhere near the vintage transmitter's clean room. Talk about radio drama!

Occasionally, an escapee from Bellevue will come knocking on our FCC mandated secure entry doors. Transients, urban explorers, ham radio aficionados, broadcast historians ... and sometimes, when the moon is hardly a sliver and a strange mist floats just above the swamp, tar-coated creatures from the black Gowanus lagoon show up. You wouldn't think the KILLERWATT's rugged, highly toxic transmitter site on Signal Hill would attract anyone other than dead-ender broadcast types. But ... yes.

Tonight, Super Jockey Dave WASTED heard the door buzz and reflexively let in the night. And just like that, guest co-host Rikk CHIPS is on-mic selecting sonic gems for your enjoyment. Brilliant!

Plus, Dave premieres The Blackout Tapes Episode 3: Rashmusher's Delight!

SCOTTSO Shills Serious Swill

KLW's Retro SCOTTSO shills only the best swill, all for the sake of commercial radio.

Some endorsements are, let's be honest, fake. But when KILLERWATT's venerable dead-jay Retro SCOTTSO airs a commercial for Death Wish Coffee, you can rest assured the station's Bunn-O-Matic is locked and loaded 24-7 percolating the World's Strongest brew. It's what the station runs on. That and electricity, whisky, cigarettes, beer, vacuum tubes and hot air. Need proof? Take a whiff anywhere near Signal Hill, Brooklyn. A perfume of strong coffee and ozone from arcing radio equipment permeates the Superfund site known as the Gowanus Canal. Intoxicating!

However, your favorite DJ is not in Brooklyn at the moment. Tonight, SCOTTSO broadcasts direct from the Akihabara district of Tokyo, where coffee is kohee, and many fine whiskys can be had in tiny bars scattered like a trail of cherry blossoms leading to and from the Akihabara Radio Center and the legendary broadcaster's hotel. Expect a wobbly team-broadcast from SCOTTSO and Tokyo resident CYCLONE in the near future.

Let's not forget tonight's all new Things From Indie, getting you clued-in to essential artists unheard until now. Ear-opening!

Send requests in the comments below. Indie bands should contact Retro SCOTTSO here

Chief Engineer Sid Walker took that as a heads-up. He's maintaining watch at the transmitter site ready to crank the Watts if necessary. No doubt, it will be.

Noel Rigs the Popularity Contest

Noel at the Controls, (fourth from left) and friends, mugging in front of the antenna fire he caused while guest hosting at an undisclosed station. Photo: Chadwicke Burger.
The KILLERWATT can handle it. Other stations can't. Our radio jockeys are used to cranking-up, or overmodulating KLW's massive vacuum tube transmitter, built to last, maintained by fanatical masters of the dark art of transmitter engineering. Radio geeks put it this way: "KILLERWATT got headroom." That is, power to spare.

Not every station is so lucky. In 2015, Noel at the Controls was on-tour mixing live sound for an amazing bill of musical artists. During the sound check a local radio jockey who we won't name offered a guest-host shift late-night after the gig. Noel immediately accepted; his on-tour hiatus from the KILLERWATT left him jonesing for air time.

Noel rang up KLW's Engineering Department on Signal Hill and asked transmitter hot rodder Chad Burger to fly out to the venue and see if he can "enlouden" the local radio station in time for Noel's guest program. The result is documented by the image above.

On tonight's program, Noel rigs his own popularity contest by playing songs that couldn't be more popular. Everybody with a radio wins. Click the link above to be part of it.

Noel's at the Controls, and that means you're in good hands. Trust us. Don your dashiki, step into the master-mixer's head space, free your mind and your ass will follow.

KILLERWATT Chief Engineer Sid Walker is a big Noel at the Controls fan. That guarantees dangerous amounts of illegal transmitter power for the next two hours. Best wear rubber soled shoes, Brooklyn!

Tonight, Noel scorches the atmosphere with an eclectic onslaught, including all the top 40 hits from The Stooges, MC5, Easy Action, Rocket From The Tombs, Funkadelic, and many more!

Desperately Seeking Cheese Sprayer

Harold Rashmusher Sr. (#4) inaugurating KLW sponsor Easy Cheese outside the Signal Hill, Brooklyn transmitter building in 1921. Other notables in attendance: #1: David Sarnoff, #2: Albert Einstein, #3: Nicola Tesla.
The KILLERWATT knows you're stocking up on sprayable junk food for the long holiday. Soon enough, your fancy-ass tear-stained pink leather-bound journal will describe it as a "lost holiday weekend like no other ... a horror ... with one exception, the music was impossibly grand!" So play KLW out that boombox you got off Ebay, replete with fleas and shipping damage. Loud.

Before we forget, Conflamed Media Global, parent company of the KILLERWATT, is hiring. Qualified personnel should consider the details in the audio above. Radio fanatics should send their curriculum vitae to KLW Program Director Vin CYCLONE.

Don't Trust Teenager, Sez Wise DJ

Otoboke Beaver

Tonight's Tokyo Triple made Vin CYCLONE cry. Not from The TIVA's yearning to "Go Back Our Home," nor from Utada's gorgeous, melancholy, fervent wish for "One Last Kiss." Instead, CYCLONE was brought to tears -- and his knees -- by OTOBOKE BEAVER's incessant exclamation, "I hate you." Hey, a night time disc jockey takes his music to heart. But we know you'll enjoy tonight's slap and tickle featuring an eclectic group of Japanese artists.

The Tokyo Triple is a feature of Vin CYCLONE's night time cavalcade of subliminal messages, The POWER HOUR, heard exclusively on KLW the KILLERWATT. To hear the full program this episode of the Tokyo Triple was taken from, click here.

CYCLONE Plasters More POWER Per HOUR

Night time DJ Vin CYCLONE, 1977, during the Great Blackout; operating the temporary studio console assembled in KLW's generator powered transmitter building, Signal Hill, Brooklyn.
Night time disc jockey Vin CYCLONE is back with more POWER per HOUR than any radio station in the tri state area.

Tonight, hear The Blackout Tapes, Part Two. In this episode, Bobby ROBERTO explains how he and Bob Grant had their privates "plaster-casted" one night at a party in LA. Plus, Chad goes out for a smoko with Vin, and it's not long before Mr. Rashmusher, (CEO of Conflamed Media Global, owner of the KILLERWATT,) makes it to the transmitter site after a mob looted and burned KLW's Manhattan studio -- all while Rashmusher was trying to take a leak in the studio's hidden executive bathroom! You can't make this stuff up! But it's all there on the aircheck tape recording of KLW, made on July 13, 1977, the "The Blackout of 1977." We're sending a copy to the Smithsonian!

Plus the Tokyo Triple! Three or more Japanese platters selected and introduced by CYCLONE himself.

Feel free to send POWER HOUR and Tokyo Triple requests: Vin CYCLONE.
