Retro SCOTTSO Re-Gifts a Mother-Load of Songs

Retro SCOTTSO sports the t-shirt he printed-up himself.

KLW's Retro SCOTTSO's got a mother-load of holiday cheer. Maybe too much "cheer." Honestly, we couldn't understand why the venerable Dead-Jay's holiday program isn't much of a Christmas slosh fest, but rather a shout-out to mommies dearest and otherwise. Confused, we consulted the KILLERWATT's resident psychologist, Dr. Aakash Balasubramanian, host of "Swinging with the Balasubramanians" (Sundays, 5-7AM,) who informed us that, "Mr. SCOTTSO apparently suffers from seasonal affective disorder, stemming from a separation anxiety disorder. In layman's terms, Mr. SCOTTSO substituted holiday blues with mother issues. An interesting case. From a clinical perspective. Especially considering he's not really alive." There ya go!

Now that we got that cleared up, we can enjoy Retro SCOTTSO's usual beautifully curated and presented music program!

Oh, and not to forget, another prescient edition of Things From Indie. Get clued-in to new bands before they break!

CYCLONE Heists 300 Million Japanese Platters

BiS takes-on Thee Michelle Gun Elephant's "Smokin' Billy"

While we all can't pull-off a 300 million yen heist and live happily ever after, some might take comfort in the realization that smoking IS an oral fixation and alt. idol group BiS (pronounced bee-su) has provided documentation. See and hear a live performance of the original by Thee Michelle Gun Elephant here.

Tokyoer Vin CYCLONE lays-out the back story to Sakanaction's mega-hit, "Sayonara wa Emotion." Here's the funny commercial that started it all. No one knows how long they have on Earth, so "why not do it now!"

NOEL Opens New York Rock Floodgates

NOEL at the Controls emanating from the region known as the Gowanus Canal Superfund site on Signal Hill, Brooklyn...New York City.

Heavy, viscous, metal-laden waters creep through the Gowanus Canal, slowly rounding the KILLERWATT's historic transmitter site on Signal Hill. We don't mind at all. Chief Engineer Sid Walker puts it this way, "The highly conductive, liquid-metallic waterway acts like a reflector, helping launch KLW's 50,000 watts of power far afield. It's just a matter of physics."

NOEL at the Controls takes full advantage of New York City's lax stance on industrial pollution. He's radiating a coal powered, chromium plated, tungsten fired broadcast ... tonight, featuring songs from the carcinogenic Concrete Jungle we call home, N-Y-C. How'ya'doin'?!

Retro SCOTTSO's personal assistant is unexpectedly out of town, so who'll sneak the Scotch in his coffee? Well, it's gonna take a lot more than Lynn being on the lam to stop the Dead One from partying on-air. Celebrating the venerable Dead Jay's One Year Anniversary as toastmaster-deluxe at the KILLERWATT, tonight's program lines up songs like shots of oak aged nectar. Tasty! Happy anniversary, Retro SCOTTSO!

Bobby ROBERTO Presents: Treats for Radio Geeks

A tale from the dark side of KLW, plus a razor blade in your apple.

Signal Hill, Brooklyn is not only designated as one of the country's most toxic Superfund sites, it's also certified haunted by The Atlantic Paranormal Project (TAPP.) Just ask the KILLERWATT's resident announcer, Bobby ROBERTO. He's got spine chilling tales of late-night radio station weirdness -- you'll hear one tonight -- plus a bonus spin of "The War of the Worlds," by The Mercury Theatre on the Air, originally broadcast October 30, 1938. So, radio on, lights out.

WASTED Lets Night Come Knockin'

Rikk Chips (L) and Dave WASTED ventilating KLW's smoke-filled transmitter room with a few record library grabs. They only ended up fanning the flames of Chief Engineer Sid Walker's wrath. No smoko-breaks anywhere near the vintage transmitter's clean room. Talk about radio drama!

Occasionally, an escapee from Bellevue will come knocking on our FCC mandated secure entry doors. Transients, urban explorers, ham radio aficionados, broadcast historians ... and sometimes, when the moon is hardly a sliver and a strange mist floats just above the swamp, tar-coated creatures from the black Gowanus lagoon show up. You wouldn't think the KILLERWATT's rugged, highly toxic transmitter site on Signal Hill would attract anyone other than dead-ender broadcast types. But ... yes.

Tonight, Super Jockey Dave WASTED heard the door buzz and reflexively let in the night. And just like that, guest co-host Rikk CHIPS is on-mic selecting sonic gems for your enjoyment. Brilliant!

Plus, Dave premieres The Blackout Tapes Episode 3: Rashmusher's Delight!

SCOTTSO Shills Serious Swill

KLW's Retro SCOTTSO shills only the best swill, all for the sake of commercial radio.

Some endorsements are, let's be honest, fake. But when KILLERWATT's venerable dead-jay Retro SCOTTSO airs a commercial for Death Wish Coffee, you can rest assured the station's Bunn-O-Matic is locked and loaded 24-7 percolating the World's Strongest brew. It's what the station runs on. That and electricity, whisky, cigarettes, beer, vacuum tubes and hot air. Need proof? Take a whiff anywhere near Signal Hill, Brooklyn. A perfume of strong coffee and ozone from arcing radio equipment permeates the Superfund site known as the Gowanus Canal. Intoxicating!

However, your favorite DJ is not in Brooklyn at the moment. Tonight, SCOTTSO broadcasts direct from the Akihabara district of Tokyo, where coffee is kohee, and many fine whiskys can be had in tiny bars scattered like a trail of cherry blossoms leading to and from the Akihabara Radio Center and the legendary broadcaster's hotel. Expect a wobbly team-broadcast from SCOTTSO and Tokyo resident CYCLONE in the near future.

Let's not forget tonight's all new Things From Indie, getting you clued-in to essential artists unheard until now. Ear-opening!

Noel Rigs the Popularity Contest

Noel at the Controls, (fourth from left) and friends, mugging in front of the antenna fire he caused while guest hosting at an undisclosed station. Photo: Chadwicke Burger.
The KILLERWATT can handle it. Other stations can't. Our radio jockeys are used to cranking-up, or overmodulating KLW's massive vacuum tube transmitter, built to last, maintained by fanatical masters of the dark art of transmitter engineering. Radio geeks put it this way: "KILLERWATT got headroom." That is, power to spare.

Not every station is so lucky. In 2015, Noel at the Controls was on-tour mixing live sound for an amazing bill of musical artists. During the sound check a local radio jockey who we won't name offered a guest-host shift late-night after the gig. Noel immediately accepted; his on-tour hiatus from the KILLERWATT left him jonesing for air time.

Noel rang up KLW's Engineering Department on Signal Hill and asked transmitter hot rodder Chad Burger to fly out to the venue and see if he can "enlouden" the local radio station in time for Noel's guest program. The result is documented by the image above.

On tonight's program, Noel rigs his own popularity contest by playing songs that couldn't be more popular. Everybody with a radio wins. Click the link above to be part of it.
